lusticia lignans : Part 4 t - Two new arylnaphthalide lignans from lusticia neesii Ramamoorthy

The isolation and characterization of two new arylnaphthalide lignans, jusmicranthin 1 and justirumalin 5, in addition to helioxanthin 4, taiwanin C 8, retrohelioxanthin 9 and justicidin A 10 from J. neesii, have been reported. Structure of 1 has been deduced as its ethyl and methyl ethers. Compound 1 is the first member .of angularly fused arylnaphthalide lignans having hydroxyl/alkoxyl group on the lactone ring. Retrohelioxanthin 9 has been isolated as a natural product for the first time.
